Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who also holds the Bengaluru city development portfolio, told the legislature on Tuesday that he would soon convene a meeting of officials and legislators to address the outstanding issue of some Arakawath allottees, especially farmers, who are losing land, not getting sites in the arrangement created by the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) about 20 years ago.
Responding to a call to action raised by a BJP member, Mr. Shivakumar noted that it was worrisome that some of those who had been allotted seats in the Arkavathi layout, especially farmers who had lost their land and were allotted seats as per the norms, were yet to get their seats.
“Due to various legal issues, the seats allotted to some farmers who are losing their land are non-existent. Justice KN Keshavanarayana’s committee is looking into the issue. I will soon convene a meeting of all concerned officials and elected representatives to discuss ways and means to resolve the issue,” he said.
Earlier, Mr. Muniraju claimed that the lands allotted to farmers who are losing land are being held by others due to various legal issues and the redevelopment issue (in which some lands notified for acquisition were left out).
