Delhi Capitals was one of the founders of IPL, but they still find themselves without their name. The team, formerly known as Delhi Daredevils, has always had big names in their ranks, but the performances have never been on the standards of the required fans. The only moment DC reached the final was 2020, where they fell on Mumbai Indians.
But this season there was a lot of renewed hope around the franchise because there were several big and bold calls. Their captain over the past few years and the face of the franchise. Rishabh Pant was sent to the auction pool and released. They made Axar Patel Captain and, among other things, retained some of their trusted players in Kuldeep Yadava, Tristan Stubbs. In the auction they created some smart business by purchasing Mitchell Starc, Kl Rahul, FAF du Plessis and some unclassified stars in the form of Ashutosh Sharma and ViPraj Nigam.
Squad looked set up for the title and the beginning was great. Deli won four of our four games and looked like a party to beat this campaign with a charged Rahul, who led the way with the bat. Their qualifications on the play -off It looked like a formality at one point. Even at the first loss of the team, there were several good moments of cricket from the team and everyone had them in the first four selections.
But then something that DC fans worried about began to happen. Capitals lost 3 of their last 5 matches and were lucky to get against SRH when the rain hit after putting 133 in their 20 breaks.
When they won 4 games in a row, I thought it would be hard to beat. They looked like a team to be Top 4 or even TOP 2 for me. I was surprised at how the bikes began to fall, ”said surprised Shane Watson for broadcasting after Monday’s match on Monday stopped rain.
So what happens to DC?
Dc is not so great history
If you look at the history of Delhi in IPL, it is filled with seasons that they will be sure that they will get into the playoffs and then fall away. While they got into the semifinals in the first two IPL campaigns, one of their best was in 2012, where they ended up at the top of the point table.
That was when the playoff system was introduced and DC eventually lost 1 and eliminator 2 to be removed from the competition.
Now that you look at the season when they seemed to be candidates to perform playoffs, 2010 and 2016 come to the mind. In IPL 2010 he won DC 6 of his first 9 games and seemed to be in the play -off race. In the last five matches, however, they collapsed, lost 4 of them and finished fifth.
In 2016, DC won 5 of his first 7 seven games and seemed to be a team that defeated the tournament. However, another seven brought only two wins and Dehi finished 6th. Historically, DC showed that the trend to be sucked into the black hole in the second half of their campaigns and eventually disappeared when the playoffs were reached.
This season, however, seems to be more caused.
Why no replacement for Harry Brook?
When Harry Brook pulled out of the IPL 2025 campaign, everyone expected DC going out and getting in. Brook pulled out before the start of the season and it was in March. Now we have to sign in May and Delhi.
Specifically, there were many options. Dewald Brevis is one of the ways as it meant that he would give them the opportunity in the middle of the order. Now Klouul was doing well on the spot, which means they could even use it on another opening. The Lhuan-Dre Pretional, which set fire to the SA20 scene, could have been brought to solve the problems with the franchise opening.
Which brings us to our last point.
Too many experiments upstairs
Delhi used 6 different opening pairs this season. While Faf du Plessis injury in the early part of the season was the reason, the number is too much for the team to chase the first four. On Monday, DC used another with the opening of du Plessis and Karun Nair. And it failed, from the first ball.
Watson said it perfectly when he said that Karun was promoted, that she felt random.
“They just randomly changed the opening combination. It wasn’t necessary. I was so surprised that I almost fell off the chair when Karun came to the bat with du Plessis. That wasn’t needed at all,” Watson said.
Do you now need a DC miracle?
Yes, yes and no. DC faces pbks away from home, GT at the ARUN Jaitley stadium and then in Mumbai. Three teams and three equal rivals in the playoff race. For them, it’s all about returning to the basics. Watson said cricket is a play of trust and seems to be missing for DC at the moment.
“Criket is also about trust and dynamics and Delhi Capitals just didn’t play a great cricket in the last 3 or 4 games, so to think, and the bats, as if they had tonight, thought you would like to like it, in three more three teams,” Watson said.
Delhi, however, has the right players to get out of the slump, but the road seems hard.
“It will be a miracle in my eyes so I can turn things so fast. Look, hopefully in Delhi’s capital because of the players’ caliber has a team caliber they can, but with what we have seen in the last 4 or 5 games, it will be for them to turn things,” Watson said.
DC needs a certain redemption quickly and time is running out. It seems to be slowly closing this well-known black hole and sucks them in front of the playoffs
