Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the Seva Teerth complex, which will house the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the National Security Council Secretariat and the Cabinet Secretariat.
Modi unveiled the Seva Teerth plaque at the new complex – the name written on its wall in Devanagari script. Below it is the motto “Nagrik Devo Bhava” (Citizen is like God).
The PMO will move from the South Block on Raisina Hill to Seva Teerth, merging the offices of the Cabinet Secretariat and the National Security Council Secretariat, which were located at different locations.
Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal, Minister of State in the PMO Jitendra Singh and officials from the PMO were present on the occasion when Modi inaugurated the new building.
Prime Minister Modi’s first decision of Seva Teerth reflected the spirit of Seva and touched every section of the society, news agency ANI reported.
The Prime Minister signed important documents regarding important decisions for women, youth and vulnerable citizens
Notable new initiatives taken included PM RAHAT programme, doubling of Lakhpati Didis target to 6 million, agricultural infrastructure fund doubled to ₹2,000,000 crore, India’s initial fund of funds 2.0 with corpus ₹10,000 million crowns
“In his very first set of decisions after moving to Seva Teerth, PM Modi signed important sets of decisions that reflect the spirit of Seva. These decisions touch every section of society: farmers, women, youth and vulnerable citizens,” the agency said.
Decisions made on the 1st day in the new office
Among the decisions taken, the Prime Minister approved the launch of the PM RAHAT programme. As part of this initiative, accident victims will receive cashless up to ₹1.5 lakh, which ensures that there is no loss of life due to lack of immediate medical assistance.
The government has crossed the 3 million Lakhpati Didis milestone, more than a year ahead of the original timeline of March 2027. The Prime Minister has now set a new, ambitious target of 6 million Lakhpati Didis by March 2029, doubling both the scope and the aspiration.
In another decision, Prime Minister Modi approved doubling the expenditure of the Agricultural Infrastructure Fund from the year ₹1 million million crowns ₹2 million million crowns.
To boost India’s innovation ecosystem, especially in deep tech, early-stage ideas, advanced manufacturing and breakthrough technologies, Prime Minister has approved the Startup India FoF 2.0 with corpus ₹10,000 crore, in another decision of the day.
Steps to move away from India’s colonial past
Since 2014, the Modi government has taken steady steps to shed symbols of India’s colonial past and bring about a shift in thinking, officials said.
They pointed out that the Prime Minister’s office will now be called Seva Teerth, the Central Secretariat buildings will be called Kartavya Bhawan and the Rajpath will be renamed as Kartavya Path.
In the same vein, Race Course Road, where the Prime Minister’s official residence is located, was renamed as Lok Kalyan Marg and Raj Bhawans and Raj Niwas were renamed as Lok Bhavan and Lok Niwas.
“The inauguration marks a transformational milestone in India’s governance architecture and reflects the Prime Minister’s commitment to build a modern, efficient, accessible and citizen-centric governance ecosystem,” the PMO said on Thursday.
For decades, several key government offices and ministries operated from a fragmented and aging infrastructure spread across multiple locations in the Central Vista area.
The inauguration marks a transformational milestone in India’s governance architecture.
This dispersion led to operational inefficiencies, coordination problems, escalating maintenance costs, and suboptimal work environments. The new building complexes address these issues by consolidating administrative functions within modern, future-ready facilities, the company said.
