David Warner says SRH still blocks him on social media: He will never block himself

Former Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner on Sunday revealed that he still seems to be blocked by the franchise on Instagram. Warner shared a screenshot of SRH’s profile on his Instagram story where the account was shown as ‘private’ – something users usually see when they have been blocked.

The matter gained more attention after a fan commented on one of Warner’s recent Instagram posts and tagged SRH’s account and urged the franchise to unblock him. Responding to the fan, Warner wrote: “They would never block me.” (Credit: David Warner Instagram)

THE FAILURE AND BREAKDOWN OF WARNER

Warner has not featured in the Indian Premier League since the 2024 season. The Australian opener was recently seen in the Pakistan Super League and continues to feature in franchise T20 tournaments around the world.

Despite the current tensions, Warner’s journey with SRH remains one of the most impressive player-franchise partnerships in IPL history. After joining the Hyderabad-based side in 2014, he quickly became the backbone of their batting unit and was handed the captaincy a year later.

Under Warner, SRH lifted their first IPL trophy in 2016. The left-hander played a key role in that campaign, finishing among the tournament’s top run-scorers while leading a side that relied heavily on disciplined bowling and his consistency at the top of the order.

Warner also enjoyed huge personal success during his time with the franchise, winning the Orange Cap in 2015, 2017 and 2019. He remains one of the most successful overseas batsmen to have played in the IPL and continues to be among the leading players for SRH. In 95 matches, Warner scored 4014 runs for SRH at an average of 49.56, scoring two hundreds and 40 fifties for them. He also became a cult hero for the Orange Army with his Telugu film reels.

However, the relationship between Warner and the franchise took a dramatic turn during the 2021 season. Poor form and a string of defeats prompted the management to remove him as captain midway through the campaign.

The situation worsened when Warner was dropped from the playing XI later in the season. During the UAE portion of the tournament, he was often seen sitting away from the team in the stands instead of in the dugout, highlighting the growing distance between the player and the franchise. The chapter finally ended before the mega auction in 2022 when SRH dropped him from the team.

In December 2023 Warner first revealed that he was blocked by SRH when he tried to congratulate Pat Cummins and Travis Head on getting mega deals with the franchise.
