Dasara flower show begins in Mysuru

A flower show with a floral replica of the Vidhana Soudha at its centre, focusing on the democratic rights of voters and elements of the constitution, drew crowds at Mysuru’s Kuppanna Park on Sunday.
The Dasara flower show was inaugurated by Chief Minister DK Shivakumar after the traditional launch of Mysuru Dasara atop Chamundi Hills.
People made a beeline for Kuppanna Park to see the floral arrangements, especially inside the Glass House. The organizers used red and golden yellow flowers to make the Vidhana Soudha replica. The structure measured about 57 feet in width and 31 feet in height. According to officials, around 2,000,000 red roses and 4,000 kg of chrysanthemum flowers were used.
A replica of the national coat of arms and constitution was also displayed inside the Glass House.
Many flower arrangements were erected to convey a strong vote message. Compulsory Voting, First Voters, Accessible Voting, Ballot Paper, EVM, Control Unit, Polling Station, Secret Balloting appeared at many places in Kuppanna Park.
Inside the Glass House was found an exhibition of bonsai varieties and flowers such as Rex Begonia, Cockscomb, Spathiphyllum, Poinsettia, Impatiens, Gloxina, Carnation, Ixora.
Hundreds of sprinklers were used to protect the flowers from wilting. The flowers will be changed on October 16, said Roopa, an official of the Horticulture Department.
A replica of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar decorated with attractive flowers and a floral sculpture of environmentalist Salu Marad Thimmakka were also on display. A number of visitors were found clicking photos near the floral replica Hampi Stone Chariot.
Lhamo, a Tibetan visitor who visited the flower show for the second year in a row, said: “It is very nice and well arranged”. Nagashree of Ramakrishnagar said the flower show must highlight the concept of heritage and culture of Mysore.
Visitors from Bengaluru, Kerala and Kollegal were among the visitors on the first day of the flower show on Sunday.
Lingambudhi Park
Meanwhile, the Lingambudhi Botanical Garden in Mysuru also hosted a spectacular flower show that attracted visitors.
District Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah inaugurated the flower show at Lingambhudhi Park on Sunday evening. While the entrance gate is decorated with an artistic display of an elephant, the traditional Indonesian art of coconut palm weaving known as Janur art was also on display at the entrance.
Bamboo products and flower pots were a special attraction of the show. A thermocol artwork depicting Chavundarayi Basadi and Bahubali was also erected to convey the message of peace, non-violence and simplicity.
