“Bring on 2026…I’m back! I’m so happy to be home, put my feet in the sand on the beach and start thanking all the people who have reached out to me and my family in their unwavering support,” Martyn wrote in an emotional post on X, sharing a photo of himself standing on the beach.Reflecting on the episode, Martyn said it served as a stark reminder of life’s uncertainty.“This experience reminded me how fragile life is, how quickly everything can change and how precious time is!”The 54-year-old former World Cup winner also looked back on his battle with the disease, describing the seriousness of the condition and his gradual recovery.“On December 27th, 2025 my life slipped out of my hands…when meningitis took over my brain and unbeknownst to me I was placed in a paralyzing coma for 8 days to help me fight this horrible disease. And I did! Fight it that is!…. After being given a 50/50 chance of not being able to survive, I was 8 days away when I started talking about induced coma.”“And yet 4 days later, with unbelieving doctors, I was walking, talking and proving to them all why I should be released from the hospital to begin my recovery,” he stated.Martyn, who has represented Australia in 67 Tests, 208 ODIs and four T20Is, also expressed his gratitude to those who supported him during the difficult period.“This post is a HUGE thank you to ALL my family, friends and the many other people who have reached out to me! There are so many amazing people in this world…from the paramedics (at Mermaid Waters Ambulance), doctors and nurses (at Gold Coast University Hospital)…to family, friends and people I didn’t even know.“I feel like I’ve met all these fantastic people in the last 3 weeks or reached out to them with messages of love and support,” he wrote.
