
Cyclone Ditwah Tracker LIVE: The Chennai Meteorological Department on Friday issued a cyclonic storm alert for Ditwah, saying that the cyclonic storm, which is centered over the Sri Lankan coast and the adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, has moved north-northwestward at a speed of 10 kmph since last six hours.
At 8:30 IST, the cyclone was located near 8.3°N and 81.0°E. It is located roughly 40 km southwest of Trincomalee and 100 km northwest of Batticaloa in Sri Lanka, an ANI report noted. On the Indian side, the storm lies about 320 km south-southeast of Karajkal, 430 km south-southeast of Puducherry and 530 km south of Chennai.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed teams in several districts in Tamil Nadu to take precautionary measures in anticipation of heavy rains, following requests from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry state disaster management authorities.
Each NDRF team consists of 30 members, with a total of eight teams deployed in designated districts. Puducherry will receive two teams (60 personnel), while Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, Cuddalore and Tiruvarur will have one team each assigned for preventive operations.
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority said heavy rains are expected in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema on Saturday and the day after due to the impact of cyclonic storm Ditwah.
