Three people have died in rain-related incidents in three districts of Tamil Nadu since Saturday (November 29, 2025) evening as Cyclone Ditwah brought torrential rains to the state.
While two people died due to wall collapse in Thanjavur and Thoothukudi districts, one died due to electrocution in Mayiladuthurai district, KKSSR State Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Ramachandran said on Sunday (November 30) morning. More than 2,300 people have been accommodated in 38 relief camps in nine districts, he said.
Addressing a press conference at the State Emergency Operations Centre, Mr. Ramachandran said that due to heavy rains, crops in around 56,000 hectares in various districts are under water. Crops in around 24,000 hectares in Nagapattinam district, over 15,000 hectares in Tiruvarur district and about 8,000 hectares in Mayiladuthurai district were affected, he said.

Once the water recedes, the officials will calculate the actual damage and the chief minister will decide to announce compensation for the damages suffered by the farmers, the minister said.
About 230 huts were damaged due to the rains, he said. With the arrival of 10 more NDRF teams, 38 teams are ready in Tamil Nadu to be deployed in areas as required.
As of Sunday morning, over 2,300 people were accommodated in a total of 38 relief camps in nine districts of Tamil Nadu – 10 camps in Nagapattinam district, nine in Pudukkottai, seven in Villupuram, four in Tiruvarur, two each in Mayiladuthurai, Ramanathapuram, Thanjavur; one each in Chengalpattu and Ranipet districts.

The Tamil Nadu government is coordinating with other government agencies to ensure the safe return of those from Tamil Nadu currently stranded in Sri Lanka, the minister said. Although the weather for air traffic in Sri Lanka has cleared, the weather here in the state is still improving and they are expected to reach on Sunday, Mr. Ramachandran said.
Summarizing the steps being taken by the state government machinery along with the district administrations, Mr. Ramachandran said the situation was “under control” and “has not gone out of our hands”.
