
On Saturday, May 16, the Cyberabad police arrested a 32-year-old habitual offender who was involved in a series of house burglaries in Ameenpur.
The accused, identified as Mandla Shiva alias Yerra Shiva, a resident of Jillelaguda in Meerpet and a native of Nagarkurnool district, was arrested by the Crime Squad in Serilingampally zone along with the Ameenpur police. Police recovered 45 tolas of gold ornaments, diamond studded jewellery, 5000 in cash, a scooter and an iron rod used in the crimes.
The accused was involved in a burglary on the night of February 21 at a house in Gandigudum Colony under Ameenpur police station limits by breaking the lock with an iron rod and stealing gold and silver ornaments. Later, during the second week of April, he targeted another locked house in Bandamkommu locality and stole diamond-studded gold ornaments weighing over 45 tolas.
In another incident reported during the last week of April, the accused broke into a house in Beeramguda and stole valuable watches and small money kept in an almirah.
Investigation revealed that Shiva came to Hyderabad in search of livelihood and initially worked as a construction worker under a mason. He later turned to property crimes to support a lavish lifestyle.
Police records show that the accused was involved in as many as 24 property crime cases registered in Cyberabad, Malkajgiri office and Nagarkurnool district and had been jailed several times before.
Further investigation is underway.
