As employees made their way out of offices through Hyderabad’s IT corridor on Tuesday (June 9, 2026) evening, the roads around T-Hub, Durgam Cheruvu cable-stayed bridge, Raidurg and Hitech City presented a scene more often associated with the peak monsoon months. Long lines of vehicles stretched into the distance, their red brake lights reflecting off the rain-soaked roads. But beneath the sea of red taillights was another familiar monsoon image that Cyberabad residents know all too well: roads disappearing under standing water.
An hour of heavy rainfall between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm was enough to inundate several stretches across the newly formed Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) limits, causing waterlogging and almost halting traffic in parts of the IT corridor.
Amount of precipitation
According to the CMC, Miyapur received the highest hourly rainfall with 53.3 mm, followed by Kukatpally with 52 mm, Hafeezpet with 47.5 mm, KPHB Colony with 46 mm, Shaikpet with 44.3 mm, Khajaguda with 43.3 mm, Raidurg with 30.5 mm and Madhapur with 30.8 mm.
The sudden downpour led to widespread water accumulation in several parts of the Cyberabad region. Areas including Kondapur, Madhapur and Hafeezpet witnessed significant waterlogging, with several cars and two-wheelers left partially submerged. Videos circulating on social media showed motorists wading through flooded roads while stranded vehicles were seen stuck in standing water at several intersections.
Monsoon alert announced on June 1
The disruptions were observed after the Cyberabad civic authorities announced monsoon preparedness measures on June 1. Ahead of the rainy season, the corporation has identified vulnerable spots, deployed monsoon emergency teams and held coordination meetings with the Cyberabad Police and Traffic Police to ensure quick response to waterlogging and minimize disruption to traffic during heavy rain.
Field visit on June 10
On Wednesday morning, CMC Commissioner G. Srijana along with zonal commissioners, deputy commissioners, engineering officials and monsoon emergency teams took stock of the situation and inspected the affected areas. In coordination with the Cyberabad Law and Order Police and Traffic Police, field teams monitored vulnerable spots, regulated traffic movement and dealt with water stagnation spots on priority. Tuesday’s rain provided the first major test of these measures.
The teams monitored vulnerable areas, regulated the movement of traffic and prioritized areas of water stagnation. “We have also identified existing and emerging waterlogging sites and initiated remedial measures to strengthen drainage management and improve preparedness for future rainfall,” a senior official said.
