Police Bengalur looks at a man who acts as an official from the Ministry of Telecommunications (DOT), called Rajya Sabha member of Sudha Murtha and tried to obtain his personal data.
Based on the complaint of Ganapath Bopaiah, on behalf of Sudy Murtha, the police registered a company on Saturday that accused the accused of 66C (identity), 66D (personification) and 84c (attempt to commit a crime) of the 2000 Information Technology Act.
She posed the accusation as an employee from Dot called Mrs. Murty and told her that her mobile number was not associated with her Aadhar and was looking for her personal data she denied. The defendant reportedly became abused and threatened to block her SIM card in the next three hours if he did not give details. Mrs. Murty interrupted the calls and checked Trucaller and the number was stored as “Telecom Department”.
The police traced the caller to Calcutta and was sent a team to trace him.
