CWG: Raja Muthupandi won silver to complete a perfect day for India in weightlifting
Raja Muthupandi made it a perfect day in weightlifting for India as he won silver in the men’s 65kg category at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Sunday. Muthupandi lifted a total of 286kg in both the jerk and clean and jerk rounds to beat the competition and secure second place behind Malaysia’s record and gold from Malaysia’s Az Munilham.
Bidin lifted a total of 299 and looked set to have a big lead over the competition in both rounds, but Muthupandi did enough to keep the Malaysian on his toes. Papua New Guinea’s Morea Baru took the bronze medal and battled Muthupandi to the very end for the silver, but faltered with his final lift in a clean and jerky round. Muthupandi’s win followed Mirabai Chan’s gold and Rishikanta Singh’s silver earlier in the day, taking India’s tally to four in weightlifting and para weightlifting combined.
