India’s campaign at the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2026 is off to a flying start and the Indian nation is currently ranked eighth in the medal standings after securing four medals: two gold, five silver and three bronze.

Leading a 122-strong contingent in eight able-bodied (Athletics, Artistic Gymnastics, Bowling, Boxing, Judo, Swimming, Track Cycling, Weightlifting) and five integrated para-sport categories (Para Athletics, Para Powerlifting, Para Swimming, Para Track Cycling and 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball), the Indian athletes are already making a name for themselves in Scotland. The country is just behind Malaysia in the overall standings as the competition continues.

Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu secured India’s first gold medal in Glasgow by winning the 48kg event. Meanwhile, Rishikanta Singh won India’s first medal in weightlifting with a silver in the men’s 60kg category and Raja Muthupandi followed it up with a second silver in the men’s 65kg weightlifting.

Para-powerlifter Jhandu Kumar officially opened India’s medal account on Friday (July 24) by winning a bronze medal in the men’s para-powerlifting division. India won its second bronze when Bindyarani Devi finished third in the women’s 58kg weightlifting final.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow currently run from 23 July to 2 August.
