CWG 2026: Harjinder Kaur wins silver with 227kg total in women’s 69kg weightlifting

Harjinder Kaur won the silver (Image: India’s Harjinder Kaur continued the country’s impressive run in weightlifting by winning a silver medal in the women’s 69kg event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Tuesday. The 28-year-old produced a balanced performance, finishing with a total of 227kg after lifting 101kg in the snatch and 126kg in the throw.Harjinder opened with a clean sweep by successfully lifting 120kg before raising the bar to 123kg in her second attempt. She performed the lift with confidence and set a new Commonwealth Games record in the event. The Indian weightlifter then completed her campaign in style by successfully lifting 126kg on her final attempt, bettering her own tally to finish with a total of 227kg.

Simoneau dominates and takes the gold

Canada’s Charlotte Simoneau proved too strong for the field and won the gold medal with a Commonwealth Games record total of 240kg. Simoneau lifted 108 kg in the clean and 132 kg in the throw, setting Games records in both lifts and overall.Australia’s Nya Phebe Hayman settled for the bronze medal with a total of 218kg (97kg jerk + 121kg clean and jerk), nine kilograms behind Harjinder.

Weightlifting continues to shine for India

Weightlifting has once again emerged as one of India’s most successful events at CWG 2026, with seven medals to its credit so far. India’s weightlifting medal winners are:
