CWG 2026: Complete schedule, timings and medal events as India eye medals on July 28, Tuesday

Sajan Prakash. (AP photo) India enjoyed its best day yet at this edition of the Commonwealth Games on Monday, winning six medals, taking its tally to 10. The Indian contingent will look to carry the momentum into Tuesday (July 28) with several medal contenders and key qualifiers lining up in weightlifting, boxing, athletics and swimming.The day begins in the pool where Sajan Prakash will compete in the men’s 50m butterfly heats while Srihari Nataraj will be in action in the 100m backstroke heats. Both swimmers will aim to book their places in the evening semi-finals. India will also be represented in athletics as Vishal TK and Rajesh Ramesh compete in the men’s 400m heats in hopes of advancing to the next round.

Weightlifters are aiming for a place on the podium

India’s best medal hopes on Tuesday lie in Nirupama Devi Seram and Harjinder Kaur, who will compete in the women’s 63kg and women’s 69kg weightlifting finals.Fresh from Bindyarani Devi’s bronze medal-winning performance, the Indian weightlifting team will be eager to continue their strong run at the Games.

Boxers eye semi-final spot

The boxing ring will witness a busy day for India with five quarter-final bouts scheduled. Preeti Pawar opens India’s campaign against Northern Ireland’s Nicole Clyde in the women’s 54kg category. She will be followed by Priya Ghanghas, who will take on Scotland’s Niamh Mitchell in the women’s 60kg category.Later in the evening, Parveen Hooda takes on England’s Sacha Hickey in the women’s 65kg quarter-final, while Jadumani Singh takes on Zambia’s Mwengo Mwale in the men’s 55kg event. Kapil Pokhariya will conclude India’s boxing program with a quarter-final bout against Scotland’s Robert McNulty in the men’s 90kg category.A win in any of these bouts will guarantee at least a bronze medal by securing a place in the semi-finals.

Athletics and para swimming medal opportunities

India will also compete for medals in athletics as Pooja Singh competes in the women’s high jump final, while distance runner Gulveer Singh will fight for honors in the men’s 10,000m final.In para swimming, Karthik Budigina and Ali Imam will first compete in the men’s 50m freestyle S13 heats before returning for the finals later in the day if they qualify.
