The Kochi Customs Preventive Service has provisionally released the luxury car seized from actor Amit Chakkalakkal as part of Operation Numkhor, targeting a racket suspected of selling cars allegedly smuggled from Bhutan.
The car was recently released to the actor under Section 110A of the Customs Act, under which seized goods are provisionally returned to the owner after furnishing a guarantee of its approximate value and providing 20% of that amount as a bank guarantee, a customs source said on Saturday.
A source said at least eight cars, either registered in Mr. Chakkalakkal’s name or allegedly imported for him, were seized during the drive. “A total of 46 cars have been impounded since September and most of them have been released or provisionally released. The cars with Indian invoices have been released to the owners after verification is completed,” the source said. Pre-released vehicles must be safely parked and displayed before the agency whenever required.
High-end vehicles belonging to actor Dulquer Salmaan were also seized and provisionally released.
