Kozhikode Corporation with the support of the Ministry of Tourism plans to develop adapted circuits to better use the city’s tourism potential.
Deputy Mayor of CP Musafar Ahamed said in the recent budget presentation that Conolly Canal would be part of tourism districts. Projects are planned to improve water transport and the introduction of recreational zones along their banks.
The waterway will be built from Eathur to Kadalundi and connects various rivers and channels. The district stations will be set up in Bepore, Kothi, Kallai, Saram Biopark, Eathur and Kapuzha, where water taxi services will be available.
A special zone of sustainable tourism will be set up near Eathur and will present his stagnant waters. The development of the Kaippuruthupalam area near Eranhikkal, which has a rich mangrove ecosystem, is the main project to be introduced soon. The runner with street lights will be built on the western side of Conolly Canal in Kaippuruthupalam. Efforts to support Piscolture at a waterpoint will be made, while expected to attract more tourists to this area. The waterways connect Puthiya nirath Jetty, Purakkatriri and Kapuzha via Eranhikkal.
The establishment of circuits based on topics such as culture, the environment, education, health (including the treatment of KALARI and MARMA), business and sport is planned.
Special packages were announced for tourism projects in Machira. The first step is to clean the chira (ponds) and beautify the area. A special “protective group” modeled on Harith Karma hay will be set up for daily maintenance of Manachire. Park Ansari on Manachira Square will be reconstructed at the price of 1 crore, while music and a light fountain, which has been inactive for decades, will be reconstructed. In addition, a new fountain will be installed in Kuttichira at the cost of CRORE 4.1 GBP.
The street walk will be set up throughout the city as part of a joint project with the Council for the promotion of a district tourism, which converts Kozhikode into a pedestrian city. “Green and blue nets” will be created for the comfort of pedestrians and cyclists.
