Custodial death case: Supreme Court allows SIT to interrogate accused in Vijayawada
The High Court on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) granted suspended CI Nagaraj eight days in police custody and asked a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to interrogate him in Vijayawada.
Earlier, the Second Additional First Class Judicial Court granted eight-day police custody but directed the SIT officers to interrogate Mr. Nagaraja at the Rajahmundry Central Jail, where the arrested CI is being held in judicial custody.
However, the SIT filed an application in the High Court challenging the lower court’s order and sought the transfer of the accused to the Krishnalanka police station in Vijayawada for investigation, scene reconstruction and collection of evidence in the case. The High Court ordered investigators to videotape the interrogation.
