Cusat weighing options to elevate your campus in Kuttanad

Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) is considering a proposal to expand the academic scope of its Cochin University College of Engineering, Kuttanad, Alappuzha, by offering various specialized undergraduate programmes.

The move to consider offering demand-based courses in line with the changing requirements of the job-providing sectors is part of a drive to attract more students to the institution. Senior university officials said they plan to start at least a few such undergraduate programs from the 2027-28 academic year.

Fields of study considered include business, business studies and finance. The final decision will be taken after detailed discussions on various aspects related to the design and analysis of the potential of specialized programmes, they said.

Authorities have pointed out that the Kuttanad campus needs a boost and the proposal to focus on starting new undergraduate programs could help achieve it. Students from areas close to the institution would also get the opportunity to study undergraduate programs in innovative fields.

The introduction of programs tailored to young students will be discussed. The aim is to increase student enrollment and make the campus self-sustaining, they said.

The university’s 2026–27 budget included a proposal to develop the institution into a rural campus as part of efforts to ensure inclusive and regionally balanced growth.
