Modi laid the foundation stone of Amaravati for the first time on October 22, 2015, in his first term as PM, during the event in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. The then TDP government led by the main Minister Chandrababa Naida performed several developmental works. In 2019, however, the works stopped after the lost TDP as the Government of the YSR Congress. The main Minister Yagan Mohan Reddy decided to develop three state capitals instead of Amaravati.
With the fact that the NDA led by TDP last June, Naida decided to continue working on her dream project, which is waiting for about 10 years in uncertainty, legal harmonized and political unrest.
“Amravati was the name of the capital of Indraloka, and it’s not just a coincidence that Amravati is the capital of Andhra Pradesh. It is a sign of” Swarna Andhra “.
The idea of reviving Amaravati as a new capital appeared for the first time in 2014, when Andhra Pradesh was divided into two states and Hyderabad became the capital of Telangany.

From 2015 to 2025 – related costs
Amravati is a ten -year dream of Naida, the main minister. In 2015, the construction of projects in Amaravati was estimated £ 27 097 crore. In 2025 costs the cost of approximately £64 721 crore, estimated.
In 2014, when the idea of Amaravati was first flooded, Ys Jagan Mohan Reddy, then in opposition, decided to support him in the assembly. Reddy, however, criticized the acquisition of soil of 33,000 hectares of fields, where three crops can be grown annually for capital construction.
In October 2015, Reddy did not participate in the Amaravati Foundation Stone installation ceremony, where he was the main guest of PM Modi. Later, the YSR Congress claimed that there was a fraud in the capital of thousands of CRORA in the capital.

During public opinion surveys in 2019, Jagan Mohan Reddy assured the public that Amaravati was committed as the capital. Before the elections he also built a house in Tadepalli in Amaravati and moved in.
Change of mode
Things changed when TDP lost power in 2019 and YSR Congress under the US Jagan Reddy got to power. On December 17, 2019, the main Minister JAGAN Mohan Reddy announced the three capitals for Andhra Pradesh on the last day of the Assembly.
“If you look at South Africa, there are three capitals. Perhaps legislative capital can be placed in Amaravati. Executive capital can be placed in Visakhapatnam and High Court in Cournol Said Amaravati needs £1.9 Lakh crore for a construction that the state cannot afford.
In March 2022, however, this Act on Three Caps was abolished. Jagan Reddy, however, said he was devoted to three capitals and that his government would bring stronger legislation in the future.
Ghost Capital – Amaravati
From 2019 to 2014, an ambitious project was left unaffected. Farmers filed petitions in courts and organized protests requiring the continuity of the original plan for Amaravati.
The paintings of partially designed buildings and abandoned land have gained the reputation of “ghost capital”. Most infrastructure projects have been stopped or postponed. International cooperation, including Singapore and Japanese companies, have passed or reduced operations.
Report 2023 by component and general auditor (CAG) raised questions about expenditure formulas, inconsistencies in land allocation and exceeding costs in capital work. By 2019 more than £15,000 crore has already been spent with little visible progress
Amravati seizes the vision of “Swarna Andhra”.
On 5 March 2022, the High Court Andhra Pradesh said that the legislative assembly has no power to change capital. He also ordered the time limit for the construction of Amaravati. Andr Pradesh has shifted the Supreme Court against this judgment. The case is waiting.
