Cuddalore Collector reviews preparedness measures ahead of Northeast Monsoon
A review meeting on North East Monsoon preparedness measures was chaired by Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar at the Cuddalore Collectorate on Tuesday.
The meeting conducted with the line departments sought to ascertain the preparedness of the department to face the monsoon and assess the vulnerability of the district.
Each department has been asked to develop an emergency response protocol to deal with monsoon-related emergencies, including damage to infrastructure. The revenue department, local bodies and public works were asked to coordinate and cooperate with each other.
The Collector also directed officials to inspect schools and relief camps to ensure strength of buildings and availability of drinking water and sanitation facilities to accommodate people during heavy rains. According to him, vigilance should also be increased around water bodies and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
He also directed the departments to immediately de-clog major canals, water channels and storm water drains across the district and complete the desilting work as soon as possible. The 24-hour dispatch center at the Collectorate should remain operational to receive public complaints. According to him, sufficient stock of medicines should be prepared in primary health centers and government hospitals.
Officials were further directed to ensure availability of essential machinery such as earthmoving machinery, tree cutting equipment, vehicles, diesel generators, sandbags, motor pumps and inflatable boats for rescue and relief operations.
Cuddalore Superintendent of Police Vivekananda Shukla was present.
