CSK have addressed rumors of a bid for MS Dhoni’s stake, his IPL 2027 future

Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan rubbished rumors that MS Dhoni had applied for stakes in the franchise. The CSK CEO also said that Dhoni is yet to make a commitment regarding his future in the IPL and whether he will participate in the 2027 edition.

Unverified reports have fueled speculation of a possible rift between MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings, with claims suggesting that the former captain and the franchise may currently be at loggerheads over a potential ownership stake.

According to a Cricblogger report, Dhoni initially sought a 25 percent stake in the franchise before reportedly lowering his demand to 20 percent. The report further claimed that CSK responded by offering a 5.5 percent stake. However, none of these claims have been independently confirmed.

However, Viswanathan put an end to these rumours.

“The rumors are completely baseless,” Viswanathan told PTI.

WILL DHONI PLAY IN 2027?

Another topic of discussion was Dhoni’s future in the IPL and whether he would continue playing in 2027. The former India captain did not play a single match due to injury as CSK were eliminated before reaching the playoffs.

Viswanathan said that Dhoni has not said that he will not play in IPL 2027 and it is a bit of a waiting game at the moment.

“Dhoni has not said yet that he will not play. So we will wait,” said Viswanathan.

This comment from Viswanathan comes after he had earlier said that CSK will not mind if Dhoni is part of the team in any capacity, even as a mentor.

“We haven’t discussed anything with the World Cup yet. The World Cup takes its own decisions and we respect that,” Kasi said.

“We would always like to have him as a permanent part of CSK in any capacity – be it as a player, coach or mentor, whatever he wants. Any decision is up to him.”

Whether Dhoni will be a part of CSK next season remains to be seen. But in the meantime, Dhoni seems to be enjoying life off the track at the moment.
