The former Australian cricket Tom Moody suggested that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) should consider the release of R. Ashwin to release the funds before the next season Indian Premier League (IPL). Last year’s mega auction, which took place in Jeddah, was bought for CRS RS 9,75, which meant its return to CSK for almost decades – last played for them in 2015.
Ashwin, however, had an unsatisfactory season as CSK became the first team to be expelled from the competition. In eight matches he managed only five goals at an economic rate of 8.96. His best characters were 2 for 48 in four overs against Kings Pandjab (PBK) in Mullanpur.
“Hard conversation”
Also, Ashwin could not significantly contribute with the bat. Moody, former coach Sunrisers Hyderabad, noted that spending CRS 10 RS for a player who is not a guaranteed starter may not be a wise investment.
“I understand the philosophy of CSK, which is going for him (Ashwin), because at the end of the day they always went for proven and mature players and this philosophy worked for them for the duration of IPL.
“In the auction he went to almost 10 Cror and that is a lot of money for someone who is not guaranteed a place in XI. So maybe a hard conversation that will have leadership,” Moody added.
Super Kings had a forgetful season because they disappear at the bottom of the table. After CSK defeated Mumbai Indians (Mi) in his opening game, he completely lost his way. Their penultimate match is against Rajasthan Royals (RR) 20 May at the ARUN Jaitley stadium in Nový Delhi.
