CSIR – Structural Engineering Research Center (SERC) has deployed a state-of-the-art real-time structural condition monitoring system for a key span of steel composite beams in Section II. phase of Chennai Metro Rail project near Poonamallee bypass.
“A total of 15 trigger sensors have been installed on the span to continuously record the structural responses or deflections or in layman’s par the bending of the track, every time a train passes. We have developed a dedicated, secure, real-time web-based monitoring portal at CSIR-SERC’s Structural Health Monitoring Laboratory (SHML),” said a scientist involved in the monitoring. During the last 14 days, the deflections were within the prescribed limits.
