Crocodile captured near Kanekal village, moved to safety

Forest department officials captured the crocodile from a tank at Kanekal village in Yadgir district late on Sunday night in an operation that lasted for 16 hours.

Deputy Conservator of Forests Bhimashankar Ganapur said it took them 16 hours to catch the crocodile, which has now been shifted to a safer place.

Residents of Kanekal village panicked after the crocodile was spotted as some of them went to the banks to wash clothes while others took their cattle to water.

“After being alerted, the forest department personnel started the operation at 6 am on Sunday and captured the animal by 10 pm the same day,” Mr. Ganapur said.

He also appealed to the residents of the villages on the banks to alert them immediately in case of sighting of crocodiles.

Forest department personnel Shravankumar Hosmath, Somayya, Vishwaradhya, fisherman Bhagappa, villagers Sureshgouda Biradar Patil, Malluhouda Police Patil and others were involved in the operation.
