Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been suspended from the Portugal team, claims he is the best in history
Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo believes he is the best player in the history of football. The legendary striker is currently suspended from the national team following a reported dispute with manager Jorge Jesus.
In an interview with CNN Portugal, Ronaldo said his goalscoring record was underappreciated and claimed he was the best player to ever play the sport. Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have dominated the football landscape for the past 20 years, but in recent years public opinion has increasingly leaned towards Messi following his 2022 World Cup triumph and sensational exit at the 2026 tournament.
Messi, who recently retired from international football, gave Argentina a spectacular farewell, with the team hailing him as the best to ever play. Argentina even designed a special ‘GOAT’ jersey in his honour.
In stark contrast, Ronaldo had a major row with Portugal’s national team coach after he was asked to warm up but was not brought onto the pitch during Portugal’s 4-2 win against Denmark.
“People don’t appreciate the form I’m in, my goals,” Ronaldo said in a trailer of the interview, which was recorded by CNN.
“The numbers speak for themselves,” he added.
