Publicly available flight tracking data later showed that the Portuguese captain’s private plane landed in Madrid on Monday night. The development fueled speculation that he had traveled to Spain to seek professional medical attention.
Initial assessments suggested the forward could be delayed for up to a month. However, further examinations showed that the injury may be more complicated than first feared.
Al-Nassr head coach Jorge Jesus confirmed in a press conference that the latest medical tests revealed a worrying development.
“After the tests, we see that the injury suffered by Cristiano Ronaldo was more serious than expected,” Jesus said.
“Cristiano will now travel to Spain, as will the other players who went for treatment when they were injured.
“His injury required treatment in Madrid with his personal therapist and we hope he will be back quickly to help the team.”
The decision to send Ronaldo to Madrid reflects common practice among elite footballers, who often rely on trusted rehabilitation teams and specialist medical facilities to manage muscle injuries and speed recovery.
“After the tests, we found out that Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury was more serious than expected,” explained Jesus.
“Cristiano will now travel to Spain, as the other players did when they were sidelined. His injury requires specialist treatment in Madrid with his personal therapist,” he added.
Ronaldo is expected to follow a carefully managed recovery program under the supervision of his personal therapist. Al-Nassr hopes the treatment will help speed his return to action.
The Portuguese forward could miss several weeks. However, his participation in the 2026 World Cup is not in doubt at this stage.
The setback comes at a crucial point in Al-Nassr’s season. The club is currently top of the Saudi Pro League table, narrowly ahead of Al-Ahli and Al-Hilal in the title race.
The full length of Ronaldo’s absence is still unclear. However, even a short spell on the sidelines could prove a challenge for Al-Nassr as he tries to keep pace in the closing stages of the campaign.
