Protests broke out outside the Office of the West Bengal School Services (WBSSC) in Salt Lake in Calcutta on Monday (April 22, 2025) after the agency did not publish a promised list between “stained” and “unsuccessful” candidates from the controversial recruitment unit 2016.
State Minister of Education Brata Basu earned before WBSSC will release the key list 21. April. When the list was not made available on Monday after several hours, they gathered hundreds of affected candidates and organized a protest outside the committee.
The situation follows on the basis of the Supreme Court’s order in April, which adheres to the decision of the High Court in Calcutta, which canceled the recruitment of approximately 26,000 teachers and non -general employees in state schools due to the inconsistencies of the selection procedure in 2016 carried out by the WBSSC.
Subsequently, April 17, the Supreme Court allowed teachers to be “not accepted” to temporarily continue duty until 31 December 2025, or until the new recruitment process was completed. Those who are identified as “tainted” face release must return the received salaries and are prohibited from future recruitment. This decision has intensified the focus on the WBSSC list needed to identify individuals in each category.
According to reports, a group of affected teachers met with the chairman of WBSSC Siddhartha Majumdar regarding the publication of the list. There were hints after the meeting, although WBSSC, which was not officially confirmed that recruitment made during the first three counseling rounds was considered valid, while those of the next five rounds were considered invalid.
