Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said on Tuesday (Oct 21, 2025) that crime has become more organised, invisible and sophisticated and its purpose is to create chaos in society, undermine trust and challenge the stability of the nation.
Border stability, new types of crime, terrorism and ideological wars were the current issues in the country, Mr. Singh said.
The minister spoke on the occasion of Police Day. It was on this day in 1959 that 10 policemen laid down their lives in an ambush planned by heavily armed Chinese troops in Hot Springs, Ladakh.
The joint and organized efforts of the police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF) and local administrations ensured that Left Wing Extremism (LWE) did not escalate and people in LWE affected areas got a sigh of relief, Mr. Singh said, pointing out that LWE has been a major internal security challenge for a long time.
“Several top naxalites have been eliminated this year. Those who earlier took up arms against the state are now surrendering and joining the mainstream of development. The number of districts affected by left-wing extremism has reduced drastically. Areas that were once naxalite centers are now becoming education centers. Areas that were earlier known as the ‘Red Corridor’ have now contributed to the success of this corridor. and said the minister.
“A total of 36,684 policemen have made the highest sacrifice in the line of duty since independence,” Tapan Kumar Deka, director of the intelligence agency, said, adding that 191 policemen had lost their lives in the line of duty in the last year.
