Crime Branch re-arrest Dr. MK Ram in Nithin Raj death case

Crime Branch SP M. Mohanachandran said on Wednesday that the investigating agency will re-arrest Dr. MK Rama, the first accused in the death of first year BDS student Nithin Raj of Kannur Dental College in Anjarakanda. A new Crime Branch team took over the investigation and started an investigation in Kannur.

Addressing the media, Mr. Mohanachandran said that DySP Jeevan George has been deputed to conduct the investigation and the request for permission to re-arrest Dr. Rama has already been filed in the court and further steps will be taken as per the order of the court.

The crime branch will re-record the statements of Nithin Raj’s family members to find out whether any aspect of the case was missed during the earlier investigation. The team will also investigate the alleged involvement of lending app operators in connection with the student’s death.

The SP said the crime branch had already submitted an explanation to the court regarding the misconduct pointed out by the earlier investigation. A fresh probe began on Wednesday after a new investigation team arrived in Kannur.
