Quoted by Bangladesh’s The Daily Star, former cricketer Aftab Ahmed was outspoken in his criticism of the situation, saying “the biggest circus in Bangladesh is the cricket board and everyone around it”, reflecting the frustration shared by many fans. Issues like mismanagement, payment disputes and constant controversies have kept cricket in the news even when no matches are being played.

Comparing it to his experience in the US, he said, “I have been living in the US for the past three years, but I still don’t know where the cricket board is. Despite working with cricket almost every day, I don’t even know the location of the (US Cricket) board, let alone its members.“You can say it’s my failure that I don’t know. But people in Bangladesh don’t have that failure. Do you know why? Because even if you don’t know, you will be informed by the media. Even if you don’t want to know, they will make sure that you do, with constant reinforcement,” added Aftab.“Cricket is no more; the circus is. I ask you all to witness the circus.”
Drama around the cricket board
The situation escalated when the National Sports Council dissolved the existing cricket board headed by Aminul Islam Bulbul citing irregularities in the 2025 elections. Although such action is within her authority, the timing and subsequent decisions have raised questions. A new 11-member ad hoc committee was formed, headed by former captain Tamim Iqbal, who had earlier avoided the election due to “political interference and conspiracies”.Several members of the committee are said to have ties to political figures, adding to fears of outside influence in cricket administration.

This further dramatized the situation, prompting Aftab to make a sarcastic remark, “Even if you buy a ticket worth Tk 2,000, it won’t go in vain given the kind of circus that takes place on the cricket board.”
