CREDAI Chennai sets up anti-corruption panel, frames SOP for graft reporting

In an effort to promote transparency and accountability in the real estate sector, CREDAI Chennai has constituted an anti-corruption committee and implemented a standard operating procedure (SOP) for reporting cases of undue gratification, corruption and coercion.

The Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India (CREDAI), Chennai, the apex body for the real estate industry in India, has informed its members through a letter that this SOP is framed in line with the vision of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, who has consistently and unequivocally declared his government’s stance of zero tolerance towards corruption.

This SOP covers matters relating to Planning Permissions, Building Permits, Layout Approvals, Completion Certificates, NOCs, Inspections, Registrations, Utility Connections, Revenue/Land Records, Statutory Certificates and other government related services affecting member projects.

“Members were told that genuine issues related to corruption would be formally brought to the notice of the Chief Minister’s Special Cell, with copies marked to the concerned Ministry and the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption,” said P. Kruthivas, newly elected president of CREDAI Chennai.

Only persons associated with CREDAI Chennai member developers including promoters, managing director, partner, owner and authorized signatory of limited companies can file a complaint.

In the letter, CREDAI said that the term “anti-corruption committee” was used in the SOP as it was formal, clear and in accordance with the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption.
