Leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Friday demanded daily supply of drinking water to residents of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Ward 22. The party organized a protest at Shivajipalem Junction and tried to supply tap water for at least an hour every day.
Former CPI(M) GVMC leader B. Gangarao alleged that the coalition government planned to supply water to data centers and Nakkapalli steel plant while residents were struggling for drinking water.
Mr. Gangarao said residents of Pithapuram Colony, Shivajipalem, Mangapuram Colony, Netajinagar, Peetalavanipalem and Balaram Nagar were dependent on municipal taps after the wells went dry. He claimed that the water supply was inadequate and that leaks had not been addressed.
The CPI(M) has warned of a protest outside the city hall if the issue is not resolved.
