The CPI (M) Bhadradri Kothagudem district committee has asked the state government to take urgent steps to fortify the karakatta (flood bank) along the Godavari river in Bhadrachalam to prevent the “menace of Polavaram backwaters” to the temple town.
Addressing the media in Bhadrachalam on Monday, Party District Secretary Machha Venkateshwarlu welcomed the planned visit of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to Bhadrachalam on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami on March 27.
He said it was imperative to strengthen the flood bank in the temple town to find a permanent solution to the menace of flooding. Without a reliable flood protection mechanism, plans to develop Bhadrachalam town will go in vain, he pointed out.
He said the government should release all the funds for the construction of the temple at once and start the development work in a planned and time-bound manner. Pattas should be given to the poor who lost their residential plots and shops due to the construction of Mada streets around the temple by the Chief Minister during his visit to Bhadrachalam on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami, he said.
He sought passage of a resolution in the ongoing session of the State Assembly to re-transfer five gram panchayats, which were merged with Andhra Pradesh under the AP Reorganization (Amendment) Act in 2014, to Bhadrachalam sub-division in Telangana.
A government-run sand reach should be established in Bhadrachalam and the Bhadrachalam-Venkatapuram highway in the tribal heartland of Bhadrachalam Agency should be repaired and upgraded on war footing, he demanded.
