CPI(M) Srikakulam district secretary D. Govinda Rao on Tuesday asked the government to order a high-level inquiry into the alleged grabbing of Narayanapuram land, which he said had been cultivated by farmers for many decades.

Along with CPI(M) leaders Pakala Tejeswara Rao, Ch.Ammannaidu and others, he led a ‘padayatra’ from Chilakapalem to Srikakulam despite heavy rain en route.

Party leaders and workers walked nearly 15 km to reach the district headquarters and register their protest against the matter. “Government should take back land from influential persons and give it to cultivators. Otherwise we will take another ‘padayatra’ to Amaravati to increase pressure on the government,” said Mr. Govinda Rao.

Farmers along with their family members also participated in the protest and raised slogans against the government.
