
PP Rajesh, a Communist Party of India (CPI(M)) councilor representing Noonhumbayi ward in Koothuparamba village, was arrested on charges of stealing an elderly woman’s gold necklace. He was subsequently expelled from the party, the CPI(M) Kannur district committee said.
According to the party, Rajesh, a local committee member of Koothuparamba East, was expelled from the party for tarnishing its reputation.
The alleged incident took place last Thursday when Rajesh allegedly entered the house of P. Janaki (77) in Kanniyarkunnu and allegedly grabbed her from behind, snatched her necklace and fled on a scooter.
A police team led by Koothuparamba Deputy Commissioner of Police KV Pramode recovered the necklace.
