The State Secretary of CPI K. Ramakrishn says it is not right by the government to unilaterally decide the project Godavari-Banakacher.
Andhra Pradesh would face disastrous consequences, such as the Kaleshwaam Telangana project, if it continued without a proper plan, and the Chief Minister N. Chandrababa Naidu should immediately convene all parties on the ongoing irrigation projects and new designs.
Mr. Ramakrishna said that the government is not focusing on the completion of the waiting irrigation projects. Instead, it was rushing forward with new designs, such as the 82,000 GBP Godavari-Banakcharla project. He remembered how the BRS K. Chandrasekhar Rao project was launched in Telangana estimated by the CRS 81 911 GBP. Already, £ 1,03 Lakh crore was spent on it, and yet it remained incomplete, CPI leader said.
“Engineers walked around”
Mr. Naida should consult all political parties before continuing with such a massive project. The news suggests that Mr. Naida has circumvented irrigation engineers and directly negotiated with a large supplier, Mr. Ramakrishna said.
“The government is risking its credibility by unnecessarily burdening the Banakacchar project and focusing exclusively on a policy based on the contract. The government should include the associations of farmers, irrigation experts and political parties before it gets in advance,” he said.
