Communist Party of India (CPI) state secretary Binoy Viswam on Friday (Jan 16, 2026) said former Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) member KP Sankara Das, who was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the alleged embezzlement of gold from the Sabarimala temple, was an “ideal communist” who would not knowingly do anything wrong.
Mr. Vishwam told reporters that everyone in the party knows that Mr. Das will not do anything wrong on purpose.
“He is an ideal communist. But we don’t know if there was some inadvertent mistake on his part. So let the investigation continue,” he said.
He also said that anyone found guilty during the investigation will not be protected by CPI or LDF.
Mr. Das was arrested on Wednesday from a private hospital here in two cases of alleged theft of gold from the idols of Dwarapalaka (guardian deity) and Sreekovil (sanctum sanctorum) door frame, which was being investigated by a special investigation team (SIT) appointed by the Kerala High Court. He is currently still hospitalized.
