The Communist Party of India (CPI) staged a protest at the Gandhi Bomma Center in Chittoor on Friday (May 15, 2026) against the hike in the prices of petrol, diesel and commercial LPG cylinders.
CPI district secretary S. Nagaraju said rising fuel and gas prices have put a strain on the middle class and poor families who were already struggling with the rising cost of living.
Nagaraju said the hike in the prices of commercial LPG cylinders has badly affected small hotels, tea stalls and roadside restaurants. As a result, the prices of common food items like idli, dosa and tea have also gone up, he said.
The CPI leader slammed the NDA government’s “double standards” on fuel price hike and said it was a betrayal of the people. The Centre, which had kept prices under control during the election period, hiked them after the polls were over. The CPI activists demanded that the Center withdraw the hike in fuel and LPG immediately.
