A letter purportedly issued by the banned Telangana state committee of the CPI (Maoist) regarding “ceasefire extension” surfaced on social media on Monday.
The purported letter, bearing the name of Jagan, the official spokesperson of the banned organisation’s state committee, said the ceasefire was being extended by six months in line with the aspirations of the people.
“In April, May and June this year, all parties, mass organizations and civil society groups organized massive peace movements in Telangana for continuation of the peaceful atmosphere. The state government also responded in line with the aspirations of the people,” Mr. Jagan’s purported statement read.
“Subsequently, we announced a six-month ceasefire in May and have been following it ever since. We are extending the ceasefire for another six months in line with the aspirations of the people,” the brief statement added.
However, the police have not yet confirmed the authenticity of the letter circulating on social media.
