Normal life remained intact in Bhadrachalam Agency of Bhadradri Kothagudem District during a nationwide protest (bandh) called by the banned CPI (Maoist) on Sunday against the killing of Maoist commander Madvi Hidma and several other Maoist cadres in an ‘encounter’ in Andhra Pradesh on November 18.
According to sources, the protest on Sunday had virtually no impact on daily life in the temple town of Bhadrachalam and other parts of the tribal-dominated district.
TGSRTC buses were plying in the agency as usual. However, services on the Bhadrachalam-Venkatapuram and Bhadrachalam-Chintoor routes were run only till 5 pm as a precautionary measure, sources said.
Police kept a tight vigil on the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border on Sunday. No unusual incidents were reported from anywhere in the inter-state forested border region covering the agency area during the bandh.
The banned outfit has suffered a series of setbacks after several top Maoist leaders were killed in a series of “encounters” in neighboring Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh in recent times.
