CPI (m) urged N. Chandrababa Naida to cancel the approval provided to the projects of water force in the tribal areas and restore the natural state of the epurupal Strait Canal in the Prakasam district.
In separate letters addressed to the Chief Minister on Thursday, the State Secretary of CPI (m) State Secretary V. Srinivasa Rao claimed that the government’s decision was sanctioned by the Hydrokvion projects in the fifth plan in the Alluri Sitharam Raju, Parvathathipuram-Manyam and the anakapall districts and life-enabled laws.
He said that GOS (No. 51, 13 and 2) issued to companies such as Navayuga, Megha, Adani and Sri Shirdi Sai were issued without the consent of the local tribal gram Sabhas, which was contrary to the Forest Rights Act, and the 1/70 land Act. He warned that these projects would immerse nearly 20,000 acres of soil in 250 villages, moved around 50,000 strains and threatening forest ecosystems.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao remembered that two projects associated with Adani in Parvathipuram-Manyam were canceled in July after protests, despite the strong opposition. He demanded immediate cancellation of all related GOSs, legal steps against the companies intimidating the tribal and independent investigation of NHRC and NCST.
In another letter, he emphasized the situation of fishermen in the Epuruupalem Chiral Mandal, where private developers allegedly filled the natural channel to build resorts, block fishing routes and damage more than 45 ships. He was looking for the restoration of the natural shape of the channel, the removal of illegal coastal structures, compensation for the affected fishermen and conduct against the violators.
He said that the government must act urgently to comply with the rights of tribal and coastal communities and to protect natural resources from a major intervention.
