The District Committee of the Kozhikode Indian Communist Party (Marxist) (CPI (M)) created a human chain around the government hospital for a medical college, Kozhikode, to protest what is called Democratic Fronts (UDF), BJP and part of the media to take care of institution.
The opening of the protest, M. Mehboob, district secretary of CPI (M), claimed that deliberate attempts to destroy the medical sector in the state were made. This was at a time when the public health network from primary medical centers to Medical College Hospital was promoted to Excellence Center. Mr. Mehboob claimed that while BJP and UDF were plotting on the one hand to tune the health sector, large corporate groups were involved in the exercise to turn health care into just another commodity.
CPI leaders (M) said nearly 5,000 people seek to treat the outpatient department of the hospital every day. About 300 people are accepted as a patient. A large number of operations, supplies and laboratory tests are performed regularly. They said that every step should be taken to protect an institution that offers cost -effective and advanced treatment to the poor. Participants also took a promise for this purpose. The event was chaired by Thotathil Ravendran, MLA. P. Mohanan and KK Lathika, members of the State Committee CPI (M) were present.
