CPI National Control Committee Chairman K. Narayana reiterated that Amaravati is the rightful capital of Andhra Pradesh, reflecting the long-standing aspirations of the people.
In a statement on Thursday, Mr. Narayana said the proposal to recognize Amaravati as the capital has already been approved in Parliament. He noted that the demand for capital in the Vijayawada region dates back to 1952, when the CPI first advocated for it after separation from Madras.
He criticized YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and the YSRCP, claiming that their attempt to introduce a three-capital model had weakened Amaravati and led to political setbacks for the party. He also blamed YSRCP members for boycotting Parliament during the implementation of the Amaravati Act and for their absence from the State Assembly during its passage.
At the same time, Mr. Narayana said that even the ruling party has failed. He pointed out that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and the TDP should have simultaneously pressed for special category status and implementation of safeguards under the AP Reorganization Act.
