The Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Company Limited (APCPDCL) has stopped power supply to Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam here citing non-payment of bills amounting to ₹3.08 crore.
However, it restored electricity supply after discussions held by temple officials on Saturday.
“Supply has been restored in and around the temple premises,” temple executive director Seena Nayak said.
The temple solar power plant at Apparao Peta near Pamula Kaluva has been supplying 24 MW of power to the Andhra Pradesh power grid for free for the past two years. In return, the electricity ministry provides free power to 10 designated services of the temple.
Recently, the ministry demanded payment of bills for these services, sparking discussions to resolve the issue.
According to information, the temple management, despite several reminders, allegedly failed to clear the bills since February 2023, forcing the officials to disconnect the power from the HT line.
After discussions between the temple authorities and departmental officials, the supplies in and around the temple premises were fully restored.
Considering the sentiments of the devotees, the temple authorities have ensured power supply to essential services using backup generators.
