While officials have not yet indicated a return to extended restrictions, citizens were invited to remain careful, follow the hygienic protocols and consider the use of a mask in crowded or enclosed areas.
Kerala, which was one of the states that reported the increase in COVID-19 infections, recorded 96 new cases.

She added that the variants of Omicron Jn.1 LF.7 and XFG were the most common in Kerala. These variants are not “not so serious”, but have a high potential for the spread of the disease.
“Masks should be worn in public places and during travel. Genomic sequencing is performed to identify the COVID-19-19 variant. Omicron jn.1 variant LF.7 and XFG, which spread in the southeast Asian countries, are most common in Kerala.
“There are currently 2,223 COVID cases in the state. 96 people are in treatment. Most of them have different diseases. 431 cases were reported in the Ernacula district, 426 cases in Kottayam and 365 cases in Thiruvanthapurama,” the ministry said.
Prof. (DR) Bhargava, former CEO of the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and former Secretary of the Ministry of Health Research, said the emergence of the XFG variant is a natural part of the ongoing development of SARS-COV-2 virus.
He also stressed that India is well equipped to quickly detect and respond to new variants, thanks to the extensive use of fast molecular diagnostic instruments such as the country.
