The Council for Kozhikode Corporation Council will consider a letter from the Ministry of Local Self -Government, regarding the proposed handover of 7 to 8 acres of land in Njeliyanparamba Bharat Petroleum Corporation LTD (BPCL) for at least 25 years (extended for another 10 years). The soil is designed for the construction of a plant for compressed organic gas (CBG).
The Corporations Council previously agreed to rent land for 20 years. However, the Ministry’s recommendation is followed by a BPCL request for a longer leasing period. In the previous communication, the Secretary also asked the corporation to correct the rental rate. BPCL has proposed to fully finance and build a CBG plant in Njeliyanparamba for the price of 99 GBP Crore. The plant is expected to process 150 tons of organic waste per day, produce six tons of CBG and 20-25 tons of organic fertilizers.
Given that the project does not impose any financial burden on the local body, the company wanted to approve it. The Council previously cleaned the proposal, which was then handed over to the state government for further consideration.
