
Kerala’s health department under Minister Veen George ordered that no medicines without a prescription should be given to children under 12 years. The decision was taken in the middle of deaths in children in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthane because of the contaminated syrup cough.
According to PTI, George said that drugs should not be issued even by the old regulation.

A three -member expert was reportedly established to study the use of cough drug and formulate new instructions.
Ministers of Health Keral Veen George said the panel includes a state controller for drugs, a children’s node clerk and the President of the State Unit of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics. “Its finding will help formulate new instructions for using cough syrup in children,” the minister said.

The sale of the problematic COLDRIF syrup was immediately suspended, although the officials confirmed that the benefit was not distributed in Kerala.
The contaminated dose of syrup was reportedly distributed in Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Puduchherry, added PTI report.
“There were no problems associated with cough syrup for children in Kerala,” the Minister said in his statement.

About 14 deaths of children in Madhya Pradesh, where the government suspended three officials and transferred the drug controller.
These deaths due to suspicion of kidney failure were reported from Chhindware in Madhya Pradesh in a month, PTI press agency reported.
