Cotton fetched a record price of ₹ 9,260 per quintal from private traders on the opening day of buying at the agricultural market yard in Telangana’s Adilabad on Thursday (Oct 22, 2026), crossing the minimum support price of ₹ 8,667 per quintal at 8% moisture content.

According to trade sources, this was possibly the highest price cotton had reached on the day the purchase began in the state. District Collector Rajarshi Shah formally started the process of buying cotton from the market.

He toured the shipyard and reviewed the arrangements made for the smooth running of trade.

Official sources said that 33 ginning plants and 18 cotton sourcing centers have been set up across the district to facilitate the sale of cotton to farmers.

Arrangements have also been made at the Adilabad market to provide basic amenities, including drinking water, to farmers. A ₹1 per meal scheme was also available for their benefit.

Business activity is expected to pick up in the next few days as cotton harvesting is still going on in some parts of the district.

Deficit rainfall coupled with prolonged dry spell during the recent rainy season is likely to affect cotton yields in the rain deficient areas of North Telangana, a major cotton growing region.
