Contemplation needs Class I exams, says Kerala minister

February 15, 2026

The government will consider whether it will be necessary to conduct examinations for Class I students, General Education Minister V. Sivankutty said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the valedictory anganwadi function at Manjampara Lower Primary School, Vattiyurkavu here on Saturday.

The Minister said that Class I examinations are a serious matter at present. The government was considering whether to conduct the examinations in Class I or not. Students’ mental health should not be compromised by being afraid of or worried about exams. Students should learn things not only in textbooks but also outside of them.

Mr Sivankutty said students should be allowed to play. As soon as he learned that they were forced to study during the holidays, arrangements were made. Children should also enjoy their holidays while learning.

VK Prasanth, MLA, who presided over the event, said that those who made fun of the minister for ensuring timely distribution of textbooks had themselves become targets of ridicule. A comparison of schools ten years ago and their current situation would show that photostats of textbooks did not have to be made today. The government in power before the formation of the Left Democratic Front government was unable to ensure that textbooks for the next academic year were ready on time, the MLA pointed out.

Various anganwadis participated in the function.
